Board Approves Recreation Complex Design

Board Approves Recreation Complex Design

The Yuma Recreation Complex Board is very excited to announce that they have approved the design for the construction of a new, state-of the art-recreation facility for Yuma and the surrounding area. The Board reviewed the feasibility study completed by Perkins & Will Design Studio in Denver, and the board has been reviewing the results of the study and have determined what would be included. The recreation complex will feature an indoor swimming pool and a basketball court, and multiple use rooms.

“The board has been diligent and has invested time to ensure that the complex is a reflection of what the community wants and can sustain,” says Kristy Rutledge, President of the Board. The cost of the project is projected to be $30 million.

“We continue to raise funds to help with the marketing for the project,” Deb Higgins, Vice President of the Board expressed. “We want to ensure that we are communicating to the public the next steps of the project,” Higgins said. “In addition, we will be approaching funders to help as we begin to raise dollars for the construction of the project.”

The need for a recreational facility in Yuma has been a priority for many years. The Yuma Recreation Complex was realized in the last couple of years, coming to fruition from many local community leaders who stepped up to help begin the process. The Yuma Recreation Complex is a 501c 3 nonprofit organization.

“This is a first, in many steps, that we will be taking to make the project a reality,” Rutledge said. “With the help of the community, we will be successful.”

Your Yuma Recreation Complex Spring 2024 Update

Yuma is a beautiful, growing community of over 3,500 residents, located on the Eastern Plains of Colorado. The city takes pride in the services they offer but lacks in providing physical activities and community engagement for all ages. People travel thirty miles to Wray, and over an hour to Sterling and Ft Morgan to participate in health-related activities to communities. We want to keep our people home!

We are grateful for you, our donors and friends who want to see the project completed! Thank you!!! Your Yuma Recreation Complex Board has been working diligently these last few months in completing the feasibility study, which was started in 2023. The Board is now analyzing the findings and will be making a recommendation on the project by June 2024.

This is only the beginning of an exciting process! The Yuma Recreation Complex will be built for the community, by the community.

Our funding needs continue. We raised approximately $75,000 last year, $40,000 of which went towards the feasibility study. The funds we need to continue to raise are for marketing, grant writing and fundraising development, as well as for architectural design of the project. Our goal is to raise an additional $75,000 for these items.

Remember, we are a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Your donation is tax-deductible. We were created to make the vision of the community become a reality! With your help, we can make it happen together. You provide the inspiration and the drive to make this project a reality for the community.
